Safe laying of the line: Types of cable rollers
Safe laying of the line: Types of cable rollers

Cable lines are valued because of their safety and durability. For their proper laying, however, appropriate equipment is necessary, including rollers, used to avoid damage when laying the cable line. What types of rollers are used here and how to make the right choice to avoid technical problems?

Why are rollers necessary when laying cable lines?

Although the ready cable line is much less exposed to damage than even the overhead line, good practices must be used when laying. Otherwise, there may be a failure and loss of material, before the cable line is started. Equipment for laying lines prevents not only the cable damage, but also located near other cables and devices. In addition, investors are obliged to comply with environmental protection regulations. The basic principles include, among others, maintaining a distance between two cable lines running next to each other.

Rollers are used to drag the cables because they provide the correct angle of cable laying and prevent excessive friction on the ground. Correct construction of the cable line requires maintaining the maximum permissible tension force and protecting the cable against unevenness, which may be located on the ground, bottom of the excavation, channel or tunnel. Appropriate spacing of rollers in combination with employees controlling the cable pulling process, avoids mechanical damage and material loss at the stacking stage.

Types of cables dragging rollers

When laying cable lines, more than one type of rolls is used. Usually V, Voivodeship and Angular Rollers are used here. If necessary, you can also reach for rollers of another type of, e.g. rollers for cable troughs.

The first type of rolls are V -type rollers, which are placed directly behind the cable drum. Standard rollers are used on straight sections of the cable route. The key is their proper setting so that the cable does not have to be excessively tight or rub against the ground.

The cable line should be driven straight as far as possible, but of course it is not very real 100%. In the crews, it must be controlled above all so that the cable is not bent at an excessive angle. The minimum permissible bending radius of the cable depends on its parameters: the number of veins and the rated cross -section of the working and return vein. The higher these values, the greater the permissible bending radius. Angle rollers are used for safety at the cable lines. They should be located along the entire length of the arch, thanks to which the force spreads into all rollers. It must be taken into account that the angular force acting on each roll does not exceed 1.4 kN. It is also generally assumed that the beam of the cable route crew should not be less than 1.2 meters. The cable roll allows you to lead the route in the right way to avoid mechanical damage.

What materials are cable rollers made of?

The cable roll should be above all durable, so the standard is the use of steel for production. This type of simple rolls are adapted to load up to 500 kg. Aluminum rollers are a lighter alternative to steel rollers, which also work at heavy loads. Usually, however, the roller frame is made of steel, which is why the product is durable. Rollers with steel frames made of other plastics, such as nylon, also work well. They are very light, and at the same time can also be used for loads reaching up to 500 kg. Rollers available on the market for dragging cables differ not only in terms of material and maximum load, but also the permissible diameter of the cable or beam. Standard rollers are adapted to cables up to 130 mm in diameter, but you can find models that allow you to run larger cables, the diameter of which reaches 220 mm. In an extremely uneven terrain, where the risk of mechanical damage is even greater, rollers with a height greater than standard work. You must also take into account the maximum permissible load, some rollers are adapted to the load even twice as much than the standard 500 kg. Extremely solid steel rollers allow it.

Angle rollers are also available in various variants - the fighting can be on the frame or steel plate - for additional protection. When protecting crews, 6 or 8 rollers are perfect, which effectively protect against damage to the outer coating and loss of material.

Steel, bearing rollers are also commonly used to drive a cable immediately after unwinding the cable drum. Cable rollers V, also called sergeant rollers, work here. They are also commonly used to collect cables when we let in a well or entrance to the pipe.

Rollers, inlets and other tools allow you to safely arrange cable lines and avoid financial losses and delays. A good design and compliance with technical requirements allow you to build an efficient and safe cable line.
