Cutting rules of power cables: how to do it safely?
Cutting rules of power cables: how to do it safely?

When laying cables, it is often necessary to connect them. To do it safely and avoid leaks, however, you need to use the right equipment and have sufficient skills. Today, we will take a closer look at the correct connection of cables and the equipment that is needed for this.

Connecting cables with cable muff

The cables are connected with cable muff. However, you also need other equipment, such as hydraulic shears. When choosing heads and a muff, it is necessary to take into account at least several factors. They should be selected for the type of cable, rated voltage, cross -section and the number of veins or conditions prevailing in the cable line. It is also necessary to make precise calculations, because the elements intended for connecting must be adapted to short -circuit conditions and the required long -term load. Special safety considerations are used for cables with a rated voltage greater than 1 kV - here when connecting coatings, metal inserts are added. Seemingly it is a simple element, but it provides greater tightness and guarantees continuity.

Cable muffs can be installed in every environment. They should not be placed in rooms where there is an increased risk of explosion. Therefore, places such as closed rooms, tunnels, channels and cable windows are excluded. There are cases when the recommendation cannot be applied to this. You can then connect, but the muff cannot be made in a cast iron body. A special technique is also used when connecting bundles of single -core cable, because cable muffs should be shifted relative to each other on individual cables.

Connections of subsequent cable components

Like cable press or other equipment used to lay cable lines, muffs must meet specific technical requirements. First of all, the metal parts of the muff should be tightly soldered to cable coatings, also made of metal. For safety reasons, it is also necessary to ensure insulation for each connected vein. Common isolation is only permissible in strictly defined cases: if the rated voltage does not exceed 1 kV, and the muma is filled with material with sealing and insulation properties.

It is necessary to take into account the short circuit load: the total for metal connections, cable coatings, return veins and armor with grounding may not exceed the clipped loads of combined coatings, armor and return veins. It is also obligatory to make solid connections: metal coatings, return veins and armor must be metallic, not only with each other, but also muffs, heads and grounding. Properly designed connections and well -used hydraulic press allow you to minimize the flow of electricity induced in them.

How to provide the necessary anti -tire protection?

To maintain safety, it is necessary not only to properly connect the cables, but also to ensure anti -tire protection. It is therefore necessary to make a proper grounding. The bodies and bases of the head should be ground. It happens that the headless ends of cables are used or the heads are made of insulation material. In this case, metal coatings, return veins and cable armor must be connected to grounding.

Each project requires an individual safety assessment, which is why other solutions are used to protect the anti -tire. It is allowed to withdraw from connecting one end of the cable with grounding. Such an exit is particularly selected to prevent the electrical potential from preventing the station area if there is disturbance. In some cases, you can also interrupt electrical continuity. However, it is necessary to provide special protective measures to prevent paralysis.

Principles of safe cutting of cables

Work on power lines require compliance with safety rules at every step, especially for such work as cutting. There is no certainty that the cable prepared for cutting has been properly grounded and turned off at the switchgear level. For this reason, work on cutting cables is treated as voltage work. Therefore, it is necessary to use such safety measures as gloves and electro -insulating shoes, protective glasses as well as insulation platforms and rugs.

In the case of cable lines, which have already been put into use, it should always be taken into account that the armor and coating can be voltage. The exposed cable should never be touched, moved or moved. Especially in the case of high voltage cables, it happens that even after turning off, the cable maintains voltage. You can safely start working only after measuring whether the cable is not voltage.

Be careful during each work with electricity to avoid paralysis. However, if we are talking about cable lines, the risk is even greater, so it is necessary to follow the instructions: at every stage of work and maintenance.
